Fixing electronics, funding service
Belmont Repair Club started with a simple idea: the school throws away working parts every year, and our community has real needs a few miles away.
How we started
[Draft — replace with the real founding story.] A few of us kept noticing broken laptops and phones piling up at home and around school — devices that were slow or cracked, not actually dead. We started fixing a few for friends and family, and realized we could turn that into something bigger: repair the devices, sell or auction what we fix, and put the proceeds toward local service work.
What we do
Members meet regularly to diagnose, repair, and refurbish donated electronics — everything from swapping a cracked screen to replacing a laptop battery. See the Repair Program page for the full process, including our data-wipe policy for anything donors give us.
Why it matters
This year, we're directing proceeds to Harvard Homeless Mission's new Belmont Chapter. Repairing electronics is something we're already good at — this just gives that skill a purpose beyond our own devices.
