The repair program
What we accept, how the process works, and where the money actually goes.
What we repair
[Draft — confirm final scope.] Laptops, phones, tablets, and small electronics (chargers, headphones, small appliances). We currently can't take large appliances or anything with a lithium battery that's visibly damaged or swollen, for safety reasons.
The process
- 1Drop-offYou bring in a device, or we collect it at a scheduled drop-off event.
- 2DiagnoseWe check what's actually wrong — sometimes it's a quick fix, sometimes it's not repairable.
- 3Repair or refurbishMembers do the actual work: screens, batteries, ports, software resets.
- 4Sell or auctionWorking devices are sold or auctioned; proceeds go to the club's service fund.
Where the money goes
[Draft — fill in with real numbers once the club has a treasurer-approved split, e.g. “X% to Harvard Homeless Mission — Belmont Chapter, Y% back into parts and tools.” Publishing a specific split builds trust with donors.]
Your data, wiped
Before any donated device is resold, we factory-reset it and securely erase storage. Devices that can't be verified wiped are not resold — parts only. [Draft — confirm this matches the club's actual policy before publishing.]
